Puisi Invictus yang berarti “Unconquered” adalah sebuah puisi yang berisi tentang perlawanan sang penulis dalam menghadapi kesulitan di hidupnya.
Stanza pertama:
Out of the night that covers me, pada baris ini “night” atau malam menyimbolkan kegelapan yang terjadi dalam hidup si penulis., menunjukkan putusnya harapan dan keadaan depresi.
Stanza kedua :
In the fell clutch of circumstance

Pada baris ini penulis menampakkan bahwa dirinya tidak lemah (have not winced nor cried aloud)

It was used by South African president, Nelson Mandela, in inspiring and uniting his rugby national team, traditionally belongs to white people but Mandela instructed to create new team consisting of white and colored African people to prove to the world that they could win the championship in 1995. It was the time when they became the host after the end of apartheid era. They did make it and created history. It was made into a movie with the same title starred by Matt Damon in 2009.
